Chinese name
蘭嶼大葉螽斯
English name
Lanyu Giant Katydid, Lan-hsu Giant Katydid
Classification
螽蟴科(Tettigoniidae)

Body length around 10 cm. This species is characteristic by its enlarged and spiny prothorax. Prothorax is rhomboid dorsally with lateral crenate processes along lateral margins. Female has developed and knife-like ovipositor.
Distribution
This species is presently only known from Lanyu Island (Lien et al., 1999), but the records from Lutao are questionable.
Habitat and Ecology
In Lanyu, this species could be found throughout the year, especially in spring and summer. Both adults and nymphs are more common along the margin of forests or shrub layers. The presently known hostplant families are Vitaceae, Leeaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Icacinaceae, Sapindaceae and Ehretiaceae. The nymphs can feed on Ampelopsis sp. (Vitaceae) in captivity. No advanced biological information is available at present.
Threats and Conservation Status
This species is less threatened by commercial collecting, but the whole population can be declined quickly within few years by deforestation and habitat loss.
