Chinese name
二尾鳳蝶、曼氏尾鳳蝶、雲南褐鳳蝶、雙尾褐鳳蝶、二尾褐鳳蝶、麗斑尾鳳蝶
English name
Mansfield's Three-tailed Swallowtail
Classification
鳳蝶科(Papilionidae),絹蝶亞科(Parnassinae),鋸鳳蝶族(Zerynthiini)
Diagnosis
Medium-sized swallowtail butterdly. Wingspan 8-10 cm. Forewing somewhat triangular, rounded at apex; hindwing undulate at margin and bearing three tails arising from M3, Cu1 and Cu2. Forewing ground colour black with several longitudinal stripes across wings from submarginal, postmedial, medial, subbasal to basal zones; underside of forewing similar in colouration but with all veins tinged yellow between marginal to postmedial zones; hindwing ground colour black and with several yellow stripes; marginal lunate patterns somewhat rectangular; postmedial, medial and subbasal stripes much more developed than those in former species; like B. thaidina, a red area ranging from m1 to cu2 cells and associated with two whitish blue spots below; underside similar to upperside, but with yellow area more developed and black area paler. Female similar to male in colouration but larger in size with forewing much more rounded, and characteristic by bearing a sphragis (Ackery, 1975; Saigusa & Lee, 1982).
Distribution
This species is presently only known from Yuennan (Zhondian) and Sichuan (e.g. Gonggashan and Hailougou) of China though Collins and Morris (1985) suggested that record in Yuennan was probably a mistake.
Habitat and Ecology Refer to previous species. The larval hostplant is Aristolochia moupinensis and the larvae are figured in Watanabe (1998: 18).

Threats and Conservation Status
This species still faces strong threats from illegal collecting and great demand of insect trading from Japan and Europe. Local populations are also endangered by deforestation and habitat alternation by improper forest management.
Remarks
Bhutanitis pulchristriata Saigusa et Lee, 1993 has been treated as a synonym or a subspecies of Bhutanitis mansfieldi since no significant morphological difference could be found between them.
