Diagnosis
A medium-sized buprestid beetle. Body length about 2.5-3
cm. The whole body is metallic yellowish green in ground
colouration with reddish sheen on thorax and with four
prominent reddish spots on elytra; elytra having five
longitudinal ridges and numerous punctuation within grooves.
No similar species known and easily distinguishable from
all the other buprestids. |
Distribution
The only known locality is around the Central Cross-island
Highway of Taiwan (Li & Yang, 1997). |
Habitat and Ecology
Ecology Biological and ecological information of this
species is very scarce. The only information available
since it was described is its diurnal flight. |
Threats and Conservation Status
This species is too rare to give any comment on its population
estimation and conservation status. Protecting the primary
forests is possibly the only strategy. |
Remarks
The subgenus Cypriacis of Buprestis was erected by Casey
(1909) based on N. American species. Then in Kurosawa
(1988), the genera Buprestis and Cypriacis are regarded
as two distinctive genera mainly because of the difference
in pronotal features. The latter is split into four subgenera,
Cypriacis s. str., Akiyamaia, Himalobuprestis and Nelsonocheira,
and mirabilis is located into Akiyamaia. Since Kurosawa's
taxonomic treatment has been followed by most buprestid
workers, we adopt Cypriacis as the generic name of this
species in this book. |
