全名 Hippopus hippopus (Linnaeus, 1758) 英文俗名 Bear Paw, Strawberry Clam and Horse's Hoof Clam. 外殼特徵 Shell reaching about 40cm in length; elongate- toovate-triangular or sub-rhomboidal in shape; usuallystrongly inflated; with valves opposed, the byssal orifice istightly closed in large specimens or only slightly gaping inyoung ones. Valves heavy, thick, usually colored withstrawberry blotches arranged in irregular concentric bands. 地理分布 This species widely distributed in the western Pacificregion, such as Malay Peninsula to eastern Melanesia.Hippopus lives on a sandy substrate in coral reef watersdown to 6-7m in depth. Adults are unattached, but youngspecimens are found byssally attached to coral heads. 模式產地 The probable holotype of Chama hippopus Linnaeus is inthe Linnaean Collection, London (Dodge 1952).
