全名 Tridacna squamosa Lamarck, 1819

英文俗名 Fluted Clam, Scaly Giant Clam, Fluted Giant Clam.

外殼特徵 Shell reaching 41cm in length; semicircular in outlines; theangle formed at the umbo by the hinge line and ventralmargin usually greater than 150o; strongly inflated andhaving medium-sized to small byssal orifice. Valvesmoderately heavy and thick; color usually grayish white butoccasionally tinged with orange; encrusted with vermetids,annelid tube, coral, coralline algae, and debris. Primaryradial sculpture consists of from 4 to 12 strongly convex,rib-like folds which become crowed and obsolete on ventralslop. Usually 5 or 6 of the folds are very strong. Concentricsculpture consists of projecting scales on primary folds.

地理分布 East Africa to eastern Melanesia. This species lives on thesurface of coral reefs, usually in somewhat protectedlocalities; in reef moats (Stephenson et al. 1931)

模式產地 The location of the holotype of T. squamosa is unknown.The type locality, "l'Ocean indien" mentioned by Lamarck,may be interpreted to include the East Indies.
